Refuelling issues at Perth Airport resolved after dozens of flights cancelled

Some passengers stranded by flight chaos at Perth Airport today are still waiting tonight as airlines work to clear a huge backlog of flights.
A major fueling problem caused the cancellation of at least 59 international and domestic flights this morning but has since been resolved, an airport spokesman confirmed.
The airport is now working with airlines to clear backlogged flights after thousands of passengers were left stranded for more than 12 hours.
The delays were caused by a disruption due to “low pressure” in the fuel systems, the airport spokesman said.
“Perth Airport is working with external experts to resolve the issue,” the spokesperson said.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely in case of further problems.”
The problem meant planes arriving at the airport were unable to refuel or take off from the Western Australian city.
“We again thank both passengers and our airline partners for their patience and understanding,” the spokesperson said.
The airport earlier admitted it had been a difficult and frustrating morning for passengers.
Passengers are told to contact their airlines for information about their flights.
A spokesman earlier said airlines had been advised not to send planes to Perth Airport until further notice unless they had enough fuel for a return flight.
9News confirmed that hundreds of passengers were affected, many of whom said they wanted to be compensated because the ordeal cost them thousands of dollars.
Perth Airport’s online departures board showed the first flight affected was a Singapore Airlines flight to Singapore, scheduled to depart at 1:10am.
