A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder and attempted murder over the stabbing of Amy Gray and another woman on a Bournemouth beach, police said.
Nassen Saadi, from Croydon, south London, was arrested by Dorset Police on Wednesday and will appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.
Police received a report at 11.42pm on May 24 that two people had been stabbed on Durley Chine Beach. Gray, 34, from Poole, died at the scene.
A 38-year-old woman from Poole, who has not been named, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. She has since been discharged.
Dorset Police said: “Following detailed inquiries led by detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), 20-year-old Nassen Saadi from Croydon was arrested on the evening of Wednesday 29 May 2024.
“He has now been charged with murder and attempted murder and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 1 June 2024.”
Chief Constable Richard Dixey said: “Our thoughts remain with Amy Gray’s family and loved ones, as well as with the seriously injured woman, and they have been updated with this latest development in our investigation.
“This matter was the subject of a thorough investigation and we have now consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service who have cleared the charges of murder and attempted murder.
“This means that the case will now be the subject of active legal proceedings and it is vital that the justice system is able to follow its course.
“It is also important to emphasize that there should be no further comments or sharing of information online or on social media that could potentially prejudice these legal proceedings.”
Tributes were paid earlier this week to Gray, who was a personal trainer and women’s head coach at Dorset Futsal Club. Her wife Sian Gray said: “It will be hard without her giggly laugh and big smile. A larger than life character.
“I will miss you immensely, my love. To the moon and back, forever and ever.”
A friend wrote on social media: “Fly high Amy Grey, I will miss you so much. I feel so heavy! You were such a good friend and someone I could call for anything. A beautiful man inside and out. Thank you for all the laughs and memories I will cherish forever.”
