In the statement, Dr Bailey Moseley said: “It has been three days since Michael left the beach to go for a walk. The longest and most unbearable days for me and my children.

“The search continues and our family is so grateful to the people of Symi, the Greek authorities and the British Consulate who are working tirelessly to help find Michael.

“We will not lose hope.”

Dr. Bailey Moseley searches the island with family friends and his four children who have also arrived on the island.

The TV doctor was on holiday with his wife and she raised the alarm when he didn’t turn up where they were staying.

An intensive search mission ensued involving police, fire, coast guard and volunteers focusing on the area between the beach and the village.

CCTV footage of the world-renowned doctor earlier emerged showing him leaving the beach and walking to the nearby village of Pedi with footage taken from a restaurant placing him on the village’s main street around 20 minutes later.

Shielding himself from the 36C heat with an umbrella, he could be seen walking down the street.

It is now believed that he was walking towards a rocky path for a longer three-hour walk. The search and rescue mission is now concentrating on this road.

The mayor of Symi, Eleftherios Papakaloudoukas, said there was “no chance” the search for Moseley would be called off until he was found, after the search was described as a “race against time”.

Papakaloudoukas said the area Moseley is believed to have passed through was “difficult to traverse” and was “just rocks” and there were “loads” of snakes.
